John Verzyl II and sister Rose, "Hard At Work"
In 1979, John Verzyl Sr., with his wife Nanette, opened “COMIC HEAVEN”, a retail store devoted entirely to the buying and selling of rare comic books. John had started collecting comics in 1965, and within ten years, he had amassed thousands of Golden and Silver Age collectibles. Over the years, he had come to be recognized as an authority in the field of comic books, and served as a special advisor to The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide for 30 years. Thousands of his "near mint" pedigree comics were photographed for Ernst Gerber's Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books. The first annual Comic Heaven Auction was held in 1987 and ran continuously for 24 years.
Sadly, John Verzyl passed away in 2018. His untimely death was a shock and a great loss to everyone who knew him. But his children, John II and Rose, having had a love of the hobby instilled in them since childhood by their dad, will continue to operate the business. We will continue to set up our huge retail displays at the annual San Diego Comic-Con, the August Chicago Comic Con, and the Collector's Summit in Dallas and will continue to wow our wonderful customers with super-rare collectibles.
